WATER USE IN THE FOOD INDUSTRY

The food and beverages processing industry requires an enormous amount of water. Especially in the fresh produce sector, water is necessary to clean fruit and vegetables to remove dirt from the fields.

One of the main problems is the amount of wastewater continuously employed in the food plants, as water is a medium that serves different purposes.

The water is used as an ingredient, a cleaning agent, for boiling and cooling purposes, transportation, conditioning, and washing raw materials.

THE NECESSITY FOR WATER RECYCLING SOLUTION

As said before, one of the main problems in this industry is the enormous water consumption and, therefore, waste.

The customer who contacted us is a sauce manufacturer leader with two specific needs; to recover the used water during the production process, for tomatoes transport and cleaning; with a water recycling system, and to implement this recycling system without any plant downtimes during the campaign phase.

SOLUTION

MEDIUM FLOW RATE SELF-CLEANING FILTER

For this application, the EUSPRAY MFU (medium flow rate) self-cleaning filter, designed for solids removal from 40μ and above and easy installation, is the best solution as its installation does not involve production plant downtimes.
Installing an industrial self-cleaning filter provides a comprehensive solution; reducing the quantity of used water, improving water quality, increasing efficiency rate, and protecting spray nozzles, helping to evade unnecessary shutdowns.

RESULTS

Thanks to the installation of our filter, water laden with sand, pebbles, and tomato stalks, everything is automatically filtered through our cleaning system, and water is reused for transporting and washing tomatoes.

The supplied solution guarantees approximately 50 mc/h of recovered water, saving more than 190,000 cubic meters of water per year and significantly improving the efficiency of the production system.

PRODUCT INSIGHTS

The MFU self-cleaning filter can filter medium volumes of liquids according to the amountì and types of contaminants to be filtrated, with no plant downtimes.

The filter body and the parts exposed to the liquid are in 304L stainless steel; 316 steel on request. The seals are Viton and EPDM.

According to the type of liquid and contaminating material filtered, can be installed a filter cartridge with radial arranged V-shaped bars with punched holes from the inside of the cartridge
